Description
Desalination process with adsorption method is a brackhish water treatment which sould reduce the salinity of excess salt. Materials used was zeolite natural type clinoptilolite that was activated by using KOH. The aim this research to know their difference decreased salinity of brackish water by using natural zeolite clinoptilolite activated and without activated and knowing the influence of variations in activator concentration. The desalination process consists of several stages, there were activation, characterization, desalination and salinitation. The process of clinoptilolite activation as chemically by using bases (KOH) with concentration variations of 2 M, 3 M, 4 M, 5 M, 6 M. The results of activation were characterized by XRD, FTIR, SEM-EDX, GSA. XRD results show that zeolite natural lampung was type clinoptilolite with peak characteristic on 2θ 11,065; 17,306; 22,319 and the using of KOH as an activator did not damage zeolite crystals. FTIR spectra clinoptilolite natural zeolite was observed at 3000 cm-1, 1500-1600 cm-1 and 400-1400 cm-1 wave numbers. SEM-EDX analysis shows that the morphology of the clinoptilolite natural zeolite before and after the desalination process changes and the main constituents of zeolite were Si, Al, and O. ZAK-KOH with the best decrease in salinity was analyzed by GSA, resulted in a pore size of 2-3 nm. Brackish water that had gone trough the desalination process had decreased 15,80%; 21,67%; 23,93%; 27,08%; 33,86%; 63,88% respectivelly activator concentration of KOH 2 M, 3 M, 4 M, 5 M, 6 M. The more concentration of KOH activator used the more deceased salinity. The best decreasing salinity was ZAK-KOH 6 M.
